Bloomington Student Sheds Some Light on Weight Loss

As an advisor, I try to set a good standard for my advisees. I keep my desk organized (just don’t look in my top left drawer), am socially tactful (nevermind that I came to teach reframing class today with dry toothpaste at the corners of my mouth), and I eat organic salads at lunch (don’t ask about dinner… or second dinner). This summer, I became a member of the gym below the apartments where the Bloomington Center students live. The summertime stars must have aligned themselves in my favor–somehow I’ve had the motivation to drag myself to the gym 20 times since June and have also biked to work almost every other day.

Director’s Story - “I am an Apple”

In 2003 my Academic Dean walked into my office and asked if she could talk to me. I said, “Sure, sit down”. She was very hesitant and somewhat nervous. She started by saying, “I hope you will listen to me, I want to tell you something and I don’t want you to be offended by it, but I think it is important and I just want you to hear me out and be open to listening to me”. (She can talk on and on, like that at other times, so I knew it was something that had negative connotations for me. I wondered whom I offended lately or what I said that was inappropriate). (I felt like I was going to get one of those lectures that my staff gives to me from time to time when they are attempting to set me straight, because they care for me. So, I tried as hard as I could to listen and not judge what she would say).

Levels of Support
Since every student is unique, it takes an individual approach to provide them with the social, academic, career and life skills they need. Our Levels of Support do just that.
We expand on real life goals…
such as the completion of a degree, building a career, developing a social network and learning life skills to live independently. Students receive unparalleled supports in the areas they can benefit from.
Students are assessed into one of four levels, depending on their competencies and readiness. Then, depending on the students interests and pathways, the most appropriate services in the level are applied.
