Where Are They Now? Alumni Report

Interview with Tim Caltagirone, Berkshire Center Alumni

Alumni studentWhat year did you leave CIP?
I left Berkshire after the Fall semester of 2006.

Where did you live after graduation?
I went back home and I commute back and forth from Kutztown University.

Where are you up to now?
Currently attending Kutztown as a Speech Communication major and PR minor.

Are you employed?
Employed at Giant foods and the Reading Phillies as a mascot.

Are you in a relationship?
Not in an official “relationship” but involved with someone at the moment.

What are your hobbies?
I love all sports– baseball, hockey, football, you name it. I’m always going to a Reading Royals hockey game. I listen to music from the old days — Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Jeffrey Osbourne, as well as some of todays top artists. I like to work out and chill with my crew on weekends. We go to a bar on Thursday nights — its a tradition i have with 3 of my close friends. And..of course..if you know me..and most of you do..my all time number one favorite thing to do..is go to Phillies games.

Mascot photoWhat accomplishments have you made since your time at CIP?
When I first left CIP, there was some uncertainty whether or not I was ready. There was no question that change had to come for me to be successful. My first order of business was to get in shape. I got a personal trainer at my local gym. When I took the microfit test, i weighed 200 pounds with a 34.2 percent of body fat. I worked out insanely hard and went on a very strict diet.

Since that time, I now weigh 150, with a 14.5 percent of body fat. Getting into shape helped me with other aspects of life. I’m doing a lot better in school, and am a lot more socially interactive. It took a lot of will power to lose 50 pounds and get where I wanted to be. Of course, we all know it’s not just about how you look, but that’s always a plus.

If you could still have 1 part of the CIP program, what would it be?
Independent living support.

What advice would you give current CIP students?
To all current and upcomng CIP students: All the staff members there have a reason for doing what they do. You may not agree with it at the time, but they know what they’re doing. Don’t dwell on things you have no control over. Focus on the things you have to do to advance in life and move on from CIP. You do that, and you’ll go far.

Where do you see yourself in the future?
The easiest answer to that is I see myself with a Bachelors degree and a job making a lot of money. Until that happens, there’s not much I can say.
