Skateboarding Is Not A Crime

Skateboarding, to me, is an art. This kind of art is not destructive but skaters are often seen as criminals. Why? The answer is simple; people stereotype skaters as punks or pot-smoking vandals with no purpose in life. Not true! We are an elite and rare breed.

Most skaters don’t skate for money or fame. Like me, they skate for one purpose, to have fun! We may not dress like you but don’t judge a book by its cover. Skaters are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. We have respect for your opinions about us but just don’t tell us we are punk kids with no life. The whole reason I skate is because it’s relaxing to me. For that hour or so, I’m free from all my problems.

I have seen signs and shirts stating “Skateboarding is not a crime” or “Arrest me, I’m a skateboarder”. I agree with these signs for one reason, if you believe in something, and I mean really believe in it, make yourself heard. I don’t care if you have never been on a skateboard. If you go to your local skate park and watch these eight, nine, and ten year old kids doing tricks you only see on T.V., you will see why I believe skateboarding isn’t a crime.

So, I end urging you to support your local skaters and don’t let the stereotypes keep you from getting to know us. We are the few, the crazy, and the really insane but we are people you might just like.
