Bloomington’s Spring Break Chicago
By Leah Iverson, Bloomington Center
From the Shedd Aquarium to Mary Poppins, we saw as much as we could of the wonderful Midwestern “Windy City,” Chicago.
The Museum of Science and Industry, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Shedd Aquarium were all favorite spots on the trip. We concluded each day with delicious dinners at The Rainforest Café, a great restaurant in Greektown and classic deep dish Chicago pizza.
Did You Know? CIP students have the option of attending a fun, cultural and educational trip for one week a year during spring break in March. Preparing through a series of class meetings, student learn about the arts, culture and trip itinerary.
We made a special stop to the Lincoln Park Community Shelter where we dropped off the medical supplies and food donations we collected prior to the trip. We were given a tour and details of the shelter, learning about the support it gives to people from all walks of life.
After the stop at the shelter, and we later joined a Chicagoan CIP student and his mom at the famous Hot Doug’s. Hot Doug’s stands by their product stating “There are no two finer words in the English Language than ‘encased meats,’ my friend.” It was a great stop and is recommended by all students at CIP Bloomington! To top things off we watched the Bull’s play the Boston Celtics. A perfect Saint Patty’s Day treat! We ended the trip with a matinee musical of Mary Poppins. You can’t beat the utopian magic of Mary.
Here are a few words from Adria Nassim, a Bloomington Center student…
“I really enjoyed the trip as a whole, and it was a really great experience. Even though I grew up right outside of Louisville, Kentucky, I haven’t actually lived in a big city. So it was just great to really be immersed in all the Chicago culture and the hustle and bustle of such a well-known American city, at it’s finest (especially in such great weather, oh my gosh!). Especially all the attractions, especially Mary Poppins! Oh my gosh!”
