Dear Friends at Berkshire…
By Michelle Plushanski, Berkshire Center Spring Break Chaperone
Ever since my son Brian has been in the CIP program at the Berkshire Center his favorite part of the program has been the Spring Break Trip. First Belize, and then to Punta Canta, and this year Greece; the icing on the cake.
Brian has grown to taking such pride in traveling independently, you can imagine his dismay when I was to accompany him this year because of health reasons. I was also very apprehensive and felt like I would be the “out-of-towner” invading the private space of the program.
Needless to say when my husband dropped me off at the airport I was very nervous, moments later when I met Margaret and Jan, I immediately felt comfortable knowing I was in good company. Their easy going and humorous personalities were so apparent from the moment we met, I knew it was going to be a great trip.
However, what struck me the most was every other year when Brian was gone on his trip I always worried. “Is he OK” or “where are they now?” Well, now I will worry no more. Each day was so beautifully planned with tours, free time, spontaneous meetings to regroup, along with a wonderful balance of two advisors who were there as support, not to interfere.
I have to say my favorite and most impressive part of the trip was getting to know the students. Each day I discovered a new personality and I was so taken by the conversations, politeness, independence, sense of humor and caring towards one another. The students were always responsible, up on time for breakfast (which I never made) and ready for their day.
What impressed me the most about all of the students was how they accepted and welcomed me with open arms. I have so many memories from this wonderful trip and it was a privilege to spend it with your students and advisors at the Berkshire Center. Thanks for the many laughs and memories.
And to all of you Yassou!!!!
