Where Are They Now? Alumni Report
By Janet Hrezo, Brevard Center
Students never really leave CIP. What they learn here goes with them and they always remain in our hearts. When Jarrett Suhr first came to the Brevard Center, we knew we had some work to do but, in the end, Jarrett met the challenge and triumphed.
Personally, I will always think of Jarrett as a talented writer who wrote beautifully about his feelings, particularly those for his family. As an actor with our Drama Club, he became a master at improvisation and used his sharp sense of humor to make even sharper points. He also told me amazing facts about animals which he learned from his internship at the Brevard Zoo and he will never be bested at karaoke.
Jarrett left the Brevard Center in May of 2009 and now has an apartment of his own in Austin, Texas which he shares with his dog, Ginger. He does his own shopping and is doing well with cleaning, cooking and laundry. He is working as a Nutrition Supplement Assistant for Thoughtful House, an autism research clinic, and takes responsibility for dressing professionally and walking to work. More importantly, though, he is happy and feeling confident about himself and is proving that he has the ability to live an independent life.
Jarrett worked hard to accomplish what he did. There were times of frustration but he never gave up and we all saw him grow in so many ways. His parents were extraordinarily supportive and, with the help of the entire staff, he recognized what he needed to do in order to become a more independent person and he used the resources available at CIP to reach that goal.
Congratulations, Jarrett.
