Wellness Student of the Month: Ashley Titone

By Jamie Kennedy, Brevard Center Health & Wellness Coordinator

Ashley Titone, CIP studentAshley’s Wellness successes are a culmination of her independent and group session efforts. Routine, independent exercise is a part of Wellness is where Ashley has really shown growth. “I enjoy using my treadmill at my apartment because afterwards I’m not as stressed and I feel good about myself.” Additionally, her flawless attendance record is an example to other students.

Ashley is self-motivated to exercise weekly and change her diet, the biggest hurdle being “remembering to drink water throughout the day”. As a result of giving the Wellness program her best effort, Ashley is excited to see changes in her health and physical abilities.

Before Ashley started her Wellness program she was not hydrating properly, rarely exercised, and suffered from back pain and muscle stiffness due to not having a stretching regimen. The beginning of the semester marked a new path for her, one of awareness and persistence to improve her health and alleviate aches and pains.

Currently, she has mapped out her personal goals and fitness goals, which allowed her to realize how they are all interconnected. For instance, Ashley has her first job and in order to see continued professional growth she realized she must improve her diet, thus increasing stamina. Ashley made the decision to make her lunches the night before to avoid eating vending machine food during her break at work. Its small steps like this that enable her to stay focused, lose weight, and improve the nutritional value of her meals.

Ashley arrives to each session dressed and enthusiastic, looking forward to “learning new stress management techniques and understanding proper form”. Last semester Ashley struggled to get in the habit of reading nutrition labels, monitoring portion size, and exercising regularly. Her start to this semester proves her commitment and has shown her the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
