Marcie Swift, M.Ed. NCSP is a Certified School Psychologist and consultant to CIP. She recently administered a battery of cutting edge vocational assessments that go far beyond traditional types of assessments.
These tests are part of a program called Roadmap for Success, designed by Marcie to quickly target student passions, talents, behavioral strengths, style of communication, conscious and unconscious motivators, and values.

CIP Berkshire students had a tremendously successful summer session in their college classes at Berkshire Community College (BCC).
While these classes are worth as many credits and have the same amount of course work as a regular semester, they are compressed into either six or eight weeks.

LEE — A significant step in redeveloping an anchor building downtown was taken Friday, as a state official announced a grant for $735,000 to build a 61-space parking lot behind Main Street.
The announcement by Gregory Bialecki, secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, came at the end of a whirlwind day in which Bialecki also attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sheffield Senior Center several miles to the south.

Elms Offers Graduate Level Course at the College Internship Program

The College Internship Program (CIP) at the Berkshire Center in Lee, Massachusetts and Elms College in Chicopee are working together to offer graduate level courses from the Elms College Masters Degree Program at the College Internship Program campus in Western Massachusetts.
Elms College offers a master of science and a certificate of advanced graduate study (C.A.G.S.) in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) as well as a C.A.G.S. in communication sciences and disorders. The course offered in November on the CIP campus in Lee, Massachusetts will bring professional staff training and development and is open to CIP staff members and practitioners from all over New England.

Charlie Jacobs Photography Experience
Charlie Jacobs is a third year student at the College Internship Program at the Berkshire Center in Lee, Massachusetts. Charlie was born in New York City, the son of Alan and Barbara Jacobs. He attended the Churchill School in NYC and then graduated from Maplebrook School in Amenia, NY in 2007. Charlie is currently interning with Michael Lavin Flower, a professional photographer, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

Berkshire Student On Path Towards Career

Nicoletta (Bella) Dyer of CIP Berkshire earned her Certificate as a Medical Office Assistant from Mildred Elley Business School. Bella distinguished herself in this intensive study of medical office management and procedures, insurance processing and transcription of medical reports. Bella also studied Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Medical Terminology.

People become students at CIP to improve themselves. But often, new students come in thinking they don’t need help in certain areas that their parents and peers know they do, or that they are above such a program. They can be too prideful, and without accepting advice or help, their success in the program may be limited.
In the PBS adaptation of Andrea Levy’s novel Small Island, I was struck by a particular line spoken by the narrator, “Sometimes, to make a dream come true, you must swallow your pride.” The truth contained within that sentence is undeniable.
Berkshire Residential Coordinator Returns to the Northeast

Some people might not be so warm to the idea of moving from sunny Florida to the volatile climate of New England, but Travis McArthur is ready to take on the challenge. Travis, a graduate of SUNY-Geneseo, became the new Berkshire Center residential coordinator on April 12, 2010 after holding the same position at the Brevard Center. I spoke to Travis about his decision, his agenda, and his new setting.
